CHARACTERIZATION OF ARSENIC RESISTANT BACTERIA ISOLATED FROM THE SOIL OF KHULNA SHIPYARD

Thirty four arsenic resistant bacterial strains were isolated from the soil samples of Khulna Shipyard. They by growing them on nutrient broth medium containing 5 mgl-1 arsenic. From them, five finally selected, and studied their morphological, biochemical ecological characters in details. identified as Bacillus lichenifomis, polymyxa, Listeria murrayi, Moraxella urethralis Planococcus citreus. All these able to tolerate upto100 ppm (mgl-1) (III). It is possibly due presence (III) resistance mechanism(s) strains. The optimum pH temperature for growth 8.5 37 °C, respectively.
